12 vibrant photos from the largest European festival in Notting Hill

Every year (beginning from the 1960s) at the end of August in one of the most famous London districts of Notting Hill, a surprisingly colorful and memorable carnival takes place. In scale, this celebration is second only to that in Rio de Janeiro, and in Europe it is considered the most ambitious.

The founders of the carnival were immigrants from the Caribbean. Once they started holding this wonderful event under the slogan "Freedom of the people gives birth to his art."

To this day, members of the British Afro-Caribbean society play the main roles in organizing and performing the celebration.

People get ready for the carnival the whole year.

The main characters of the first day of the carnival are traditionally children.

On Sunday, families come to the carnival.

Of course, security at the event is paramount.

This year, many said that holding a carnival near the Grenfell Tower house that had burnt down in June, to put it mildly, is not very appropriate. Many participants came to the event in green suits to express their sympathy for the victims and to commemorate those who died in a terrible tragedy.

The fire that happened on the night of June 14 killed at least 80 people.

People release white doves in memory of the dead.

The mayor of London was also there and expressed his condolences.
