Traveling North Korea by car

Traveling on the North Korean Highway is a unique experience. After all, such a trip allows us to see the daily life of the country, not so controlled by the government as in Pyongyang. Roads connect the main cities of the regions, and cars don't drive on them at all. This creates a very strange atmosphere, because the tracks are incredibly wide, like runways. However, their quality is poor.

Traveler and photographer Eric Lufforge drove a car along the long-distance routes of the most closed and isolated state in the world and showed how the life of Koreans appears beyond the borders of Pyongyang discussed by everyone. Here is what you will see, following in his footsteps.

Busy traffic on the North Korean highway.

Yes, you can ride a bike here without being afraid to get under the wheels.

It is forbidden to enter Pyongyang in a dirty car. Therefore, after a long trip along the country roads, cars and buses need to be thoroughly washed.

Such trips allow you to see the reality of the countryside and the lack of development. It seems that time froze here in the 50s.

The tracks are so wide that planes could land on them.

There are no toll roads in North Korea, but you cannot leave Pyongyang without special permission.

A live orchestra plays on the track, which is being repaired.

Roads are so rarely used for their intended purpose that children can even dry corn on them.
