How to touch a shark

Moscow photographer Dmitry Vasyanovich visited the volcanic island of Guadalupe and swam with divers in the Pacific Ocean, making truly unique pictures. In his photographs, divers feed a huge shark and even touch it. From the sight seen just breathtaking!

Considered the largest predatory fish on the planet, the white shark, on average, reaches a size of more than 4.5 meters, and especially large representatives grow up to 6 meters, while their weight is about 2 tons.

In Steven Spielberg’s famous film Jaws, based on the book of Peter Benchley, the white shark is represented by a terrible and ferocious cannibal, but in reality people are not the prey of this predator. As a rule, it feeds on smaller marine life, including tuna, seals, stingrays, porpoises, sea turtles, otters and others.

Depending on the type of prey, white sharks choose different attack tactics. So, for example, they prefer to attack fur seals from below and grab them with their teeth across the body. The maximum speed in such an attack can reach 40 kilometers per hour.

These predatory giants are at the very top of the food chain, so in nature they have virtually no enemies. For white sharks of small sizes, sometimes the tribesmen are larger than the danger, as well as killer whales.

White sharks live on average no more than 27 years.

At the moment, the largest of the sharks caught is a female, whose mass reached 1900 kilograms and a body length of 6.1 meters. She was caught in 1988 near the island of Prince Edward.

Now there are not so many white sharks left, they are on the verge of extinction. In total, there are about 3,500 individuals on the planet.
