When selfie and not selfie: self-portraits from the photographer in the most magical places on the planet

Well, who doesn't like selfies? Even the most avid opponents of social networks must have tried to click themselves in front of a mirror or take a cute photo with their pet. However, Canadian Paul Zizka brought selfies to a new level. The 39-year-old photographer does not take such selfies that we are accustomed to, this is a real self-portrait against the backdrop of the most beautiful places on our planet. When you look at his photographs, you can’t even believe that no one is behind the scenes, only Paul and his camera.

Paul has been professionally engaged in photography for nine years. He travels alone, visiting the wildest places of our planet. And at some point, he decided to just capture himself, because he is always somewhere there, on the other side of the lens. This happened once when he was trying to capture a rocky hill. The photographer set a timer and set off on a steep mountain directly into the sea. In a very short time he had to go through the water, and then climb on wet and cold stones.

The portrait was a success, and such photographs so captivated Paul that he decided to reproduce them everywhere in his travels.

Sometimes there are only a few steps between the camera and the photographer, but in other cases he needs to make his way through deep snow or even sail in a boat. And his dark silhouette against the backdrop of landscapes of mountains, lakes and the sea makes the pictures lively, not like some kind of picture processed in Photoshop. Paul has already crossed the Arctic Circle, has visited the Gobi Desert and several national parks in Canada. His plans are Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Siberia, Kamchatka and the Karakoram mountains.
