Wild animals between two worlds in realistic paintings of Lisa Erickson

Lisa Erickson is an artist based in Portland, Oregon. She specializes in very original paintings. Her horse is a very realistic depiction of wild animals in a very surreal setting. Her characters live simultaneously in two completely different and very colorful worlds, and one of the key roles is always given to the delightful flora. Erickson performs all his paintings with acrylic on a wooden canvas.

This may sound unexpected, but scientific discoveries inspire Lisa to paint another painting. The artist herself says that the news about a scientific or environmental phenomenon provides inspiration for creating a new work or even a whole series.

To make the work more dramatic and focus on the chosen topic, Erickson uses a black background. With it, the artist manages to reveal every smallest detail and create a mysterious void around the object of painting. Animals in Lisa’s paintings have a double meaning: on the one hand, they are representatives of the natural world, and on the other, they reflect internal human struggles and emotions.
