The controlled world of insects: what ant robots were created for

Engineers of the German company Festo, together with other teams involved in the production of the robot, but not ordinary, but imitating various animals. They have already created mechanical copies of birds, spiders, bats and several other animals. Well, when the creation of simple animals became not so interesting, the Festo engineers decided to create a collective mind - a family of robotic ants.

The result of their work was 10-centimeter copies of ants that mimic the appearance and movement of real ants. But the most striking thing is that scientists managed to endow robots with a collective intellect, reminiscent of the one that real ants possess.

It is planned that in the future these ant robots will find their application in various industries. For example, they will come in handy where machines or parts are assembled, during which the work of a team of robots coordinating their actions is necessary.
